You no longer need a referral for podiatry since 2011.

A referral from a doctor or specialist is not required for a visit to the podiatrist. This means that podiatry has become directly accessible. There will be a short screening by the podiatrist. The purpose of this is to determine whether your complaints belong to the podiatrist.

Have you received a referral?

If you do have a referral from your doctor or specialist, they have already made this assessment and the podiatrist will start examining your complaints. Then it is desirable that you bring this referral with you to your appointment.

An exception to this are diabetic patients who come to a medical pedicure to determine a care profile and possibly referral. For this group of patients, a referral is always necessary at the first appointment.
